As I wrote last week, I call myself a “Skeptical panentheist liberal Christian Unitarian Universalist with humanist and Earth-centered sympathies.”
What do I mean by “liberal Christian”?
I am a social and political liberal and I grew up studying the teachings attributed to Jesus of Nazareth. I have evolved from a Sunday school understanding of Jesus as a white, Eurocentric wish-fullfilling magical healer who was miraculously raised from the dead and watches us all like Santa to see if we’re naughty or nice to a figure more meaningful and more realistic.- a Jewish reformer, a lover of the outcast and rejected, a teacher on both small and grand scales.
The Christian New Testament is full of stories that are not factual but do contain important truths worthy of much consideration. They are the foundation of my complex belief system and I dismiss them at my peril.
Whatever ideas and teachings inform your belief system, I hope that they are life-affirming and give you something solid to stand on when the storms of life are raging!
In wisdom and grace,
Rev. Ruth
