I am a rescuer.
I stop for turtles crossing the road and will carry them to the side they are heading for. I will grab a non-venomous snake with my bare hand to move it to safety. I have taken in dogs and cats at various times. I have picked up birds knocked senseless by a close encounter with the glass door. I have even fished tadpoles out of my swimming pool and dumped them into the local creek.
Rescuing people is harder. Sometimes people don’t want to be rescued, and sometimes they depend on rescue too much. People often head right back into trouble, and even make it worse after a good rescue. And sometimes rescue is absolutely necessary to save someone’s life!
It can be tricky to know when to rescue and when to leave someone or something to their own devices.
I hope we will all know what to do when the next opportunity to rescue comes our way.
Look out for turtles!

Rev. Ruth
