It seems like the management of anxiety is a major focus for a great many people.
I grew up with several aunts who talked frequently about feeling nervous:
“Please don’t be so loud. It makes me nervous.”
“Get down from there! You’re making me nervous!”
“I’m going to lie down. I have a nervous headache.”
“Did you hear about cousin Margaret. She had a nervous breakdown!”
It took me a while to realize that we have new language for the same mental health challenges, and in the internet age, these challenges are getting worse. In addition to personal responsibilities and struggles, we have constant streams of information thrown at us from all over the world about problems large and small. It never ends!
It’s no wonder anxiety seems to be ruling our lives.
Remember that you are not alone. You are part of a faith community, and we’re all in this together!
In wisdom, grace, and hope,
Rev. Ruth
