Our older son Liam has been home for spring break this past week.  It is wonderful to have him home and see and talk with him everyday.  He is a pleasant, intelligent, kind, and funny fellow!

I am reminded of learning about “Family systems theory.”  Everyone in the family is a moving part of that system.  When you remove one part, the system changes.  When you put a new part in, the system adjusts again.

Our fellowship is also a kind of system with a lot of moving parts.  People come in and the system adjusts, and people leave, and the system re-adjusts.  This is the ongoing nature of our faith community.  In 10 years, most church populations will have changed by more than 50%.  In 20 years, very few of the original group will remain.

How long have you been a part of this fellowship?  Do you see yourself still here in 5 years, or 10, or more? What about those around you?  We must plan for changes, and adjustments to our living system.  We want to keep it healthy and functioning to keep our UU mission moving forward.
