So close and yet so far!

The human need for familiarity and comfort is basically a mammalian thing. We long for the Baby Bear’s porridge -not too hot and not too cold. When we leave for a while, we’d like to come back and find everything the same as we left it. When we work hard to clean, repair or renovate, we want all that to remain pristine.

The pandemic has changed us and it has changed our environment. We are all suffering from a kind of PTSD from the traumas of the pandemic – fear, illness, isolation, family upheaval, lack of usual comforts, supplies, activities, etc. The ongoing frustrations with repairs and cleaning keep rearing up.

Those who remember UUFEC before the pandemic are so glad to be back in person and yet . . . some things and some people are missing. And some will not be coming back. And some new folk have joined us and some things in the building have changed. So there is a lot to get used to, and some sense of lingering loss.

We need to be patient with each other and with ourselves. UUFEC is showing many signs of growth and an expectation to thrive. It will take time and more effort but our fellowship is coming back to life at a time when the panhandle really needs what we have to offer.
