Easter makes us UUs a bit nervous because it goes against our solid scientific foundation. What can the notion of resurrection possibly say to us? We know better, right?
We know that sometimes people who appear dead wake up. We know that sometimes frozen frogs thaw out and jump around. We know that frozen microbes will warm up and start reproducing. We know that stored zygotes taken from humans who are now dead can be combined under the right circumstances to create a new human life. We know better.
Actually we know a lot and we know there’s a lot we don’t know. We don’t know how atoms became molecules which became amino acids which became proteins which somehow became living cells. We don’t know where the LIFE came from.
So maybe there’s a tiny space for the mystery of what some call resurrection in our lives. I know I could use a little renewal these days. What about you?
In wisdom and grace,
Rev. Ruth
