Long time UUFEC member, Daisy Horn passed away on April 23, after years of living at Brookdale in Bluewater Bay, a Niceville assisted living facility. The past few years she had moved to the “memory care” portion of that facility.
Records show that Daisy joined the church in January of 2002. She immediately became involved in church activities and groups. Her husband, John, followed her as a member in April of the following year, a history that Daisy was always quick to note.
She was the mother of seven children, six sons and one daughter, and a former Executive Director of a non-profit organization in New Jersey. Given this history, it is no surprise that Daisy was a great manager and organizer. She chaired the Finance Committee for years and led the Annual Pledge Drive more than once. She and husband John were attendees at the Better Listening Group, held at UUFEC. It was there and at other community activities that she and John became friends with Sandi and Vern Fowler, church members at the same time.
John passed away a few years before Daisy. Later she gave up living in her large home in Bluewater Bay and took up residence at Sterling House, the predecessor of Brookdale. She allowed that she really loved not having the upkeep and the responsibility of the big house. She kept her house in Bluewater Bay, where her children and their families would stay when they visited.
Her Chairing duties did not stop with her move and UUFEC meetings were conducted there with spreadsheets and pledge info spread out in the conference room of the facility.
Daisy, in her generosity, included the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Emerald Coast Endowment in her will. For that, and for all the years of the joy and support she gave UUFEC, we are eternally grateful.
